St. Moritz in winter is a particular proposition. The season runs hard from late December, the town fills, and the difference between a good week and an expensive one comes down to where you sleep and how early you booked.
The lake-facing rooms in the main building are the ones people picture, and they are worth the premium in winter when the light comes off the ice. The tower suites are quieter.
For five travelling together, the connecting configurations on the upper floors work better than booking three separate rooms at opposite ends of a long corridor.
Two or three nights, not a week, unless you ski seriously. Pair it with a few days lower down in the Engadin, or with Zurich at either end.
